BYSIEC CHAIRMAN, DR. BERTOLA PEREKEME RESIGNS.
YENAGOA – A report reaching Bight News now has it that the Chairman of Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BYSIEC), Dr. Bertola Perekeme, has resigned. His resignation is coming few weeks to the Local Government Area elections bid for August 2019.
A reliable source in BYSIEC, disclosed that Dr. Perekeme in a letter addressed to the Bayelsa State governor, Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson sited “threats to his life and his immediate family” as reason for throwing in the towel.
In the letter dated May 31, 2019, as revealed, Dr. Perekeme thanked Governor Seriake Dickson for the opportunity given him to serve and expressed hope that his resignation would not affect the conduct of the forthcoming Local Government Council Elections in Bayelsa State slated for August 10, 2019.
The Bayelsa State Local Government Area elections which were initially scheduled for July 27th were rescheduled to hold August 10th, 2019. The shift as earlier reported by BIGHT NEWS was according to the Commission “due to plea from political parties through the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC as well as INEC’s adjustment of the Bayelsa State Governorship Election Timetable by two weeks.”
