Landslide Ravages Odi, Bayelsa Community
… Tonye Isenah Calls For Supports
Bight News – Honourable Tonye Emmanuel Isenah, has called for urgent supports from Government at all level, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the multinational companies operating in Bayelsa State and other concern bodies, to ameliorate the plight of the people of Odi Community, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, following the recent landslide that ravaged the community.
Isenah made the call when he paid an unscheduled visit on the community on Monday 8th April 2019, to access the level of damage and to identify with the affected families and individuals.
Properties destroyed by the landslide include residential houses ,roads, electricity installations, etc.
A statement made available to Bight News, by his special assistant on media and publicity, Dickson Opuene, revealed that the environmental hazard destroyed properties worth millions of naira in the community. Adding that the lawmaker was “in total disbelief over the damaged caused by erosion which has left several indigenes homeless.”
The lawmaker used the medium to call on the federal and state government through the ministry of environment and every other relevant agencies of Government to come to the aid of the people.
A statement released today by the lawmaker via his verified personal social media handle reads:
“Honestly, we as a community needs all the help we can get from all quarters, both state and federal government. Odi Community is washing away by terrible erosion. I couldn’t hold it but came down with tears as I saw the women crying and wailing.”
Tonye Isenah is the member representing the people of Kolokuma/ Opokuma constituency I and the Chief Whip in the Bayelsa state House of Assembly. He hails from Odi, the affected community.
