…Killing of brother is anathema – Owoupele
Bight News reports that a clash between two sets of “hoodlums and miscreants masqueraded as political thugs of nameless and faceless political parties” has claimed the life of one person in Tungbo-abiri community, Sagbama constituency III, Sagbama local government area of Bayelsa State, on Saturday 2nd February, 2019.
The clash occurred during the campaign of faithfuls of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the aforementioned mentioned community.
A source who pleaded anonymity told Bight News that the incident occurred when the Bayelsa West senatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Mathew Karimo took his party’s campaign to communities in Tungbo Ebe clan in Sagbama.
“APC faithfuls were in Tungbabiri community to campaign ahead of the 2019 elections. But one Mr. Simon, an Ex militant obstructed their activities, leading to a fight and one person was killed in the process”, a source said.
The clash that led to the death of one Mr. Braye Ebikoro and destruction of chairs and other belongings of faithfuls of the All Progressive Congress (APC) took a different shape and pattern as alleged angry faithfuls of APC set houses belonging to the alleged culprit ablaze in a reprisal attack.
Meanwhile, the Sagbama LGA Coordinator of the People Democratic Party (PDP) Bayelsa West campaign organisation, Mr. Sinkumo Ekisah has issued a statement calling on appropriate authority to investigate the circumstances surrounding the gruesome killing of the young man by those he described as “hoodlums n miscreants masquerading as political thugs of nameless and faceless political parties”.
Condemning the dastardly act, Ekisah said, “We want to state in strong terms that it is never a PDP/APC fight because PDP as a party abhors evil and violence and as such will never allow these hoodlums and miscreants be members of our responsible political party (PDP).
“We enjoin the security agencies to investigate and apprehend the culprits and make them face the full weight of the law.” he said.
He called on electorates to campaign peacefully and vote candidates of their choice in the forthcoming elections, as he sent his heart felt condolences to the families of the deceased.
“Once again, our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and the entire Tungbabiri community.
“Let’s not fight but campaign peacefully and vote for candidates of our choice quietly.” he advised.
Similarly, Mr. Jeremiah Owoupele, former spokesperson of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has called on the executive chairman of the Sagbama local government area to do all within his powers to avert total breakdown of law and order that may arise from reprisal attacks. Adding that people “must protect the sanctity of human life at all times.”
In a statement made available to Bight News, Owoupele condemned the gruesome killing, noting that “Killing of a brother in the guise of political support is an anathema.”
“In view of the above death we call on the security agencies to investigate the circumstances leading to the death and burning of houses and arrest the culprits and bring them to justice.” he said.
