The World Bank Group incumbent president, Jim Yong Kim, has resigned from his position on Monday but posited that it will take effect from February 1.
Jim Yong Kim 59, also known as Kim Yong is a Korean-American physician and anthropologist serving as the 12th and current President of the World Bank since 2012. On January 7, 2019, yesterday announced that he would be stepping down from his current role as President, effective February 1, 2019.
Jim Yong Kim;The Korean American physician who is a global health leader, was formerly the Chair of the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and a co-founder and executive director of Partners In Health before serving as the President of Dartmouth College from 2009 to 2012, becoming the first Asian American president of an Ivy League institution.
Kim was named the world’s 50th most powerful person by Forbes Magazine’s List of The World’s Most Powerful People in 2013.
Bight News learnt that Kim’s resignation comes while his tenure still remain 3 years to elapse in 2022.
While giving a remark to his years of service as the World Bank boss, the President in a statement said “It has been a great honour to serve as President of this remarkable institution, full of passionate individuals dedicated to the mission of ending extreme poverty in our lifetime,”
“Serving as President and helping position the institution squarely in the middle of all these challenges has been a great privilege.”
Kristalina Georgieva, the world Bank Group CEO, will take over the presidential role on interim basis effective from February 1.
However, the resignation of President Jim Yong Kim who is currently 59 years old, follows with no bankable reasons as none is made public, as we learnt that, it was for reasons best known to and reserved by him(Jim Yong Kim).
